About this Teacher Training Program:

This teacher Training Program is designed for teachers with a minimum of 100 Anusara Immersion hours and at least one year experience teaching Hatha Yoga in either public or private settings. It is designed to be an in-depth exploration into the art and skill of teaching Yoga. It will provide Trainees with an excellent foundation in a wide range of basic to advanced teaching and communication skills.

Students of this program will graduate with:

  • A very clear understanding of the philosophical and technical principles of the Anusara method
  • A beautiful connection with community enhanced by a high level of interactive teachingexperiences in a supportive group format
  • Clear insight into the responsibilities, ethics and challenges of being a Yoga teacher
  • A vastly expanded repertoire in Asana and Pranayama practices
  • Insight into working with a wide range of yoga students from beginner to advanced
  • Insight into working therapeutically with a wide range of injuries and conditions
  • Enhanced communication skills for every arena of life

Topics of Study will include:

Part One: September – December, 2009

  • Qualities, ethics & Responsibilities of the teacher
  • Creating Sacred Space
  • Inspiring Heart Oriented action, weaving intention into form
  • Integrating Heart Themes into postural instructions
  • Inner & Outer body instructions
  • Connecting with and inspiring the heart of the student
  • Attitude/Feeling expressed through form as a spiritual art
  • The Art of Sequencing
  • Creating ongoing course curriculum
  • Creating class plans
  • Teaching Multi-Level and Level Specific classes
  • Sequencing Gates: Initiation required to go from basic to advanced postures AND MORE!!

Part Two: January – March 2010

  • Teaching poses systematically: Being clear, potent and precise in communication
  • Guidelines for Verbal Instructions including:
    • Connecting with the heart of the student
    • Plain Language
    • Linking instructions
    • Transitioning principles
    • Directionality
    • Orientation
    • Active vs. Passive instruction
    • Explicit Instructions
    • Cultivating Mindfulness
    • Using Voice appropriately
    • Instructing with the breath
  • The “So-What” Mantra: The meaning and purpose behind postural instructions
  • Theme building methods
  • The Arts of Observation, Adjustments and Demonstration
  • Anatomy & Physiology, working therapeutically with a wide range of injuries and conditions
  • Building Harmonious Kula
  • Right Livelihood: The Business of Teaching Yoga

Requirements for Certification through the National Yoga Alliance:

  1. Complete the entire Teacher training course with 100% attendance – NO EXCEPTIONS. This includes attendance at all parts of all classes. Any missed classes will jeopardize your certification.
  2. Complete ALL required reading and writing assignments – NO EXCEPTIONS.
  3. Go to at least one supplementary Anusara Yoga Class each week in your local area, at least 32 weeks of the year, with any Anusara Certified or Anusara Inspired Teacher, or participants may attend a total of 4 weekend workshops with Certified Anusara Yoga Teachers over the course of the year.
  4. Keep a log book regarding classes taken and classes taught.
  5. It will also be expected that participants purchase several texts which are available through the through the www.anusara.com website or or through local bookstores. Reading lists will be sent out upon registration.
  6. Begin teaching ongoing classes (public or private). Submit a log of at least one class taught/week
  7. Take and graduate from a CPR class over the course of the year.

Part Two:

January 22 – 24, 2010
February 5 – 7, 2010
February 26 – 28, 2010
March 5 – 7, 2010
Snow/Alternate date: March 12-14, 2010


Hours:
Saturday 10:30am – 7pm
Sunday 9 – 4pm
There will be a 90 minute lunch break each day.

Pre-requisites for being accepted:

  • Minimum of 100 Immersion Hours after 3 months general study
  • Minimum of 3-6 months Hatha Yoga teaching in public or private settings, and a sincere interest in becoming an Anusara Inspired or Certified Teacher

Program Costs:

Early Registration, by January 15, 2009 is $2000
After January 15, 2009, cost is $2250
Some payment plans are possible.

Early Registration, by August 1, 2009 is $250/weekend. Payment is due one month before the start of each weekend.

After early bird registration is missed each month, price goes up to $300/weekend, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Cancellation and Penalty Fees: Because students now have the option of registering on a per/weekend basis, after payment is received, refunds will not be possible except under extreme circumstances.

Students from the Teacher Training program will have the option of attending a multi-level class with Deb which will also be open to members of the community. This class is optional for TT Students. If they wish to attend, there is a $20 charge. Each student in the Teacher Training program will also have the option of assisting this class at least once during the 8 month Teacher Training program. There is no charge for assisting.
